Planet of the Vampires, directed by Mario Bava, (for me) was a good B-movie. I'll say this right now, I couldn't find a single vampire in this movie, though! Mario Bava's visual flare has been said to have influenced many filmmakers and among them is Dario Argento, and after seeing this movie I can see how. The plot is fairly simplistic but the set design, and lighting were a pleasure to see. The colors were vivid and well placed, adding much means of atmosphere and depth. The film is somewhat claustrophobic and limited in what we see beyond the spacecraft but Bava managed to keep it from being boring. It's a bit of a bleak movie but manages not to be depressing. I recommend this movie if you like B-movies. If you're looking for the movie that inspired Aliens, this is it, but don't expect that type of flick!
