FEATURE FIEND: CLASH OF THE TITANS

Clash of the Titans is fun eye candy. It's full of large scale special effects and a bit light on plot. It's a summer blockbuster released months ahead of time so that it doesn't have to compete with bigger movies, but it could probably hold its own with your typical summer fare.

Being a fan of the original I wasn't sure if I'd like the current version of Titans. The campiest portions of the original have been removed for the new version, with a few nice nods to the original thrown in as well. Sam Worthington delivers his typical action hero performance (see Terminator Salvation and Avatar) in the role of Perseus, half-mortal son of Zeus (Liam Neeson), who wishes to distance himself from his heavenly roots while he performs a quest to defeat the Kraken and save the city of Argos.

I did end up enjoying this movie. The effects were solid and the action was good. The score, by Ramin Djawadi, grabbed me as well. Overall I find Clash of the Titans worthy of being seen in the theater. Just make sure that if you do, you skip the pricier 3D version. The film was shot in 2D and converted later, so the 3D effects are limited and not worth the extra dollars.

  1. Just got my tix for tonight. Looking forward to checking it out, and not in 3D. Thanks for the heads up!
