FIENDISH STREAMERS: STREAMING ROUND-UP

For awhile we've been talking about having a Streaming review section like DVD Fiend and Feature Fiend. Well, enough talk, here's the debut of Fiendish Streamers! For the first installment, I offer up capsule reviews of the last few I've seen:

The Damn United: A soccer flick, first of two on this list, about the career of English manager Brian Clough. This was a great story of rising through the ranks, becoming well-known, and pretty much messing everything up in the process. Michael Sheen was fantastic in this one, and I highly recommend a viewing.

Goal 2: Living the Dream: While not as good, the soccer sequel to Goal was a decent flick that meets the same expectations as the first one while continuing the story nicely. I hear the third is just a cash grab, though, that has nothing to do with these two movies. My dad, a huge soccer fan, liked these two, so there you go.

The Narrows: This little movie kind of spoke to me because it's about a dude from Brooklyn, really from Brooklyn, who goes to art school to get away from his life. Unfortunately, it becomes a tad too cliche for my liking, but still not terrible. Fun to see some Bay Ridge locations in there.

Champion: A documentary about Machete himself, Danny Trejo! This was a pretty fascinating trip down memory lane for Trejo, who delves into his childhood up till his film making career starts, and the rocky times he had along the way. It's funny to see the reactions of the interviewers to some of the things Trejo talks about.

Delicatessen: I finally got around to see this classic from French film maker Jean-Pierre Jeunet (with Marc Caro). This is a post-apocalyptic flick with tinges of Sweeney Todd and the fun nuttiness Jeunet is normally known for. The cinematography is fantastic as usual, and overall the story is satisfying. A good night in front of the tube will be had with this one for sure.
