Revenge. Violence. Murder. Faster is full of the three, and while not breaking any new ground in depicting the any of them, it still manages to be an entertaining film.
Dwayne Johnson (the man formerly known as The Rock), plays Driver, a criminal just released from ten years in prison, who is hell-bent on tracking down the men who killed his brother and caused his imprisonment. Billy Bob Thornton, in the role of Cop, plays the man set out to stop him. Oliver Jackson-Cohen, is the mysterious Killer, hired to take out Driver before he can complete his revenge. For the most part the casting is solid here, with the level of acting about what you'd expect from a better shoot 'em up film.
While the plot of the film twists a little it remains fairly predictable. Director George Tillman, Jr. manages to keep the film fresh though through quick pacing and providing a variety of interesting camera angles. Clint Mansell delivers a solid score that adds to the excitement of the film.
Faster is by no means a masterpiece, but is still an entertaining movie. It's worth a matinee or a viewing on DVD.
