DRIVE ANGRY 3D: Nic Cage drives angry in 3D! Against Hell's Bounty Hunter! And rednecks! With hot chicks! What else can a man ask for?!

HALL PASS: Owen Wilson stars in a comedy that looks rather funny. I may give this one a look on DVD one day.

On DVD this week...

DUE DATE: The Robert Downey Jr./Zach Galifinakis comedy hits home video. Looking forward to it!

ALIEN VS. NINJA: A gory low-budget Japanese flick in the vein of Machine Girl.

DCU ALL-STAR SUPERMAN: DC's latest animated flick based on Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly's comic book of the same name.

BLACK LIGHTNING: A Russian super-hero type of flick about a boy with a flying car. It was a blockbuster over there.

GOEMON: Another Japanese movie about Goemon, a Robin Hood like legend. This flick is very Fantasy based. Looks cool.

Happy viewing!

In theaters this week...

UNKNOWN: Liam Neeson is ready to rock your socks off.

I AM NUMBER 4 (conventional theaters and IMAX): D.J. Caruso's latest feels very familiar. Not sure how much I'm into it yet, but we'll see. I've liked his movies OK thus far.

VANISHING ON 7TH STREET (NY, expands 2/25): Creepy looking thriller.

BIG MOMMA'S: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON: Oh Martin Lawrence...

On DVD this week...

SUMMER WARS: Cool looking anime.

UNSTOPPABLE: Tony Scott directs Denzel and Captain Kirk as they try to stop an unstoppable train!

Happy viewing!

FIENDISH RELEASES!

In theaters this week...

THE EAGLE: G.I. Joe's Duke is a Roman warrior!

GNOMEO AND JULIET: Animated romp about garden gnomes.

JUSTIN BIEBER: NEVER SAY NEVER: For the tweens.

JUST GO WITH IT: Two of my least favorite actors, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston, in a pretty generic comedy. I'll be skipping this one.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2: More found footage scares in here.

MIDDLE MEN: Also this week, Luke Wilson brings porn to the 'net in the 90's!

Netflix releases??? With so many other ways to rent or view movies nowadays, the Fiend has decided to be fair and not list Netflix anymore. While we love the service and continue to use it, excluding Redbox, Blockbuster, etc. poses too many questions, and coming up with a big list of all of them isn't in the cards right now for Flix Fiend. To check the latest Netflix releases please click here. Thanks, folks!

FIENDISH RELEASES

The Fiend's highlights to this week's movie releases...

THIS WEEK IN THEATERS:

SANCTUM: James Cameron produces this 3D thriller about a team of cave explorers that are trapped underground. Like The Decent without the creatures.

THE OTHER WOMAN: The poster for this with Natalie Portman adorned our first post of the year, and that cool poster is still about all I know about it.

THE ROOMMATE: Derek Jeter's woman gets terrorized by another woman.

THIS WEEK ON DVD:

LET ME IN: The American remake of the Swedish horror by Cloverfield's Matt Reeves and starring Hit-Girl

HATCHET 2: Adam Green's sequel to his cult horror flick continues to bring the old school slasher flavor with an all star horror cast.

MONSTERS: New Godzilla director Gereth Edwards's flick comes to DVD. If it's good enough for Legendary to offer up Godzilla, it's good enough for me.

WELCOME TO THE RILEYS: James Gandolfini and Kristen Stewart star in this drama about moving on.

THE TILLMAN STORY: A doc about former NFL star Pat Tillman and his death while on duty in Afghanistan.

Available on Netflix this week...Machete!

FIENDISH RELEASES!

The Fiend's highlights to this week in movies...

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK:

THE MECHANIC: Jason Statham looks like he's going to kick butt as the stand-in for Charles Bronson in this remake.

IP MAN 2: LEGEND OF THE GRANDMASTER: The continuation to the story of Bruce Lee's mentor. Ass-kicking within!

THE RITE: Anthony Hopkins performs an exorcism! Sounds like a match made in hell!

ON DVD THIS WEEK:

RED: One of the best flicks of last year! Totally fun adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC comic with a great cast featuring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Brian Cox.

SAW 3D: The Saw franchise comes to a close. Yeah right.

SECRETARIAT: Let's bet on the ponies! Lou sure did, and won big!

On Netflix this week...1.Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps 2.Resident Evil: Afterlife 3.The American 4.Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer

FIENDISH RELEASES!

Hightlights from the week in movie releases!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK...

NO STRINGS ATTACHED: Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman have sex. Boo to you, Mr. Kutcher, you are not worthy!

THE WAY BACK: Old school feeling WWII flick starring Ed Harris and Colin Farrell. Looks rather good, but it'll be a rental for me.

EVANGELION: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE (limited): The latest movie in the anime series.

ON DVD THIS WEEK...

TAKERS: Your typical looking heist movie. This one has Paul Walker and Matt Dillon amongst its ensemble.

STONE: Robert DeNiro, Ed Norton, and Milla Jovovich in a movie I didn't hear about.

PAPER MAN: I saw this trailer awhile back and it looked OK. Jeff Daniels is a troubled novelist who conjures up Ryan Reynolds as a super hero. No, not the Green Lantern.

DEATH RACE 2: Direct-to-DVD sequel of the Paul WS Anderson remake flick. Looks closer to the original than the first one did.

ANIMAL KINGDOM: An Austrailian crime flick that looks pretty hard hitting. Guy Pearce is part of the ensemble.

LEBANON: A Tank flick. Not many of those around, huh?!

On Netflix this week...1. Buried 2. Devil 3. Salt

FIENDISH RELEASES!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK:

BIUTIFUL (NY, LA; limited Jan. 28): Javier Bardem stars in this hard hitting drama directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

ON DVD THIS WEEK:

THE AMERICAN: George Clooney is an...American. Yup, got that.

On Netflix this week: 1. Knight and Day 2. Going the Distance 3. Vampires Suck

FIENDISH RELEASES!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK…

TRUE GRIT: The Coen Brothers present us a visually stunning looking western remake of the John Wayne classic. Jeff Bridges looks like the perfect gritty western drifter.

LITTLE FOCKERS: The third in the the "Meet the..." series. I've only seen the second one, and I have zero interest in this one.

COUNTRY STRONG (LA, Nashville; expands Jan. 7): Gwyneth Paltrow is a country singer dealing with all kinds of demons.

GULLIVER'S TRAVELS (12/25): Jack Black is a giant, amongst other things. A rental, maybe.

On Netflix this week: EAT.PRAY.LOVE.

FIENDISH RELEASES!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK...

TRON: LEGACY: Oh, man, am I excited for this one! Tron is one of my favorites of all time and a sequel almost 30 years later is sick and fantastic and makes so much sense right now given our special effects capacities. I love that Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner are both back in supporting roles, and I'm just hoping for a thrill ride.

YOGI BEAR: Speaking of my youth, I'm less enthusiastic about a Yogi Bear movie, but it may be fun, who knows.

RABBIT HOLE (limited; expands Dec. 25; wider Jan. 14): Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhardt struggle with a tragic loss in this drama.

HOW DO YOU KNOW: I should know about this, I mean it has Reese Witterspoon and Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd and Jack Nicholson, but nope, haven't seen any spots or trailers for it. Anyway, it's a romantic comedy so go take your significant to it.

CASINO JACK (limited): Kevin Spacey stars as political lobbyist Jack Abramoff in this riotous new film.

ON DVD THIS WEEK:

THE A-TEAM: This probably won't be great, but it should be a thrill ride. Of course, I'll have to wait for it on Netflix.

CYRUS: Joanh Hill and John C. Reilly battle it out for the affections of Marisa Tomei, Hill's mother and Reilly's girlfriend, in this comedy/drama.

DESPICABLE ME: This looked like a pretty fun animated film with the hapless yellow minions stealing the show.

MICMACS: Jean-Pierre Jeunet's latest looks as fun as the rest of his films. Looking forward to it.

THE OTHER GUYS: Wil Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in this cop buddy comedy that looked good enough for a rent.

THE LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS: THE OWLS OF GA'HOOLE (12/17): Fantastic animated flick directed by Zach Snyder.

THE TOWN (12/17): Ben Affleck's crime drama hits the small screen. Supposedly this is a good one.

On Netflix this week: 1. Lottery Ticket 2. The Kids are All Right

FIENDISH RELEASES!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK…

THE TOURIST: Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie star in this European thriller.

THE TEMPEST(NY, LA; expands Dec. 17): Julie Taymor brings her flair and sensibilities to this Shakespearean movie.

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: DAWN TREADER: The third movie in the fantasy film series. I haven't seen any of these and I really haven't been tempted to either.

THE FIGHTER(limited, wider Dec. 17): Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale star as a boxer and his older brother/trainer respectively in a movie that really looks gritty and fantastic.

AND EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE(limited): Steven Soderberg's directs a documentary about Spalding Gray.

ON DVD THIS WEEK…

INCEPTION: It's out, but since I rarely buy movies and I'm a Netflix user I'll still have to wait a month for this one. Still pissed I missed this one. Here's Lou's review.

SALT: Jolie in theaters and DVD?! It's a good week for her fans! This one looked like fun. Here's Lou's review.

SHREK FOREVER AFTER: Shrek's last quest comes to DVD, but is it really the end? I kind of doubt it.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD (Netflix): For Netflixers this one is a must rent! I absolutely loved this movie and you need to see it. I know I just said I rarely buy movies, but this one is a must for even me!

GROWN-UPS (Netflix): A comedy that looked meh at best with Sandler, Rock, James, Spade, and Schneider. I don't care if you peed in the pool!

FIENDISH RELEASES!

BLACK SWAN (limited): Darren Aronofsky's latest about the cut throat world of ballet? Looks like there's more to it than that, though, and his movies are always of interest.

THE WARRIOR'S WAY: It's a video game on film, but what's wrong with that? Hopefully it turns out to be semi-entertaining.

I LOVE YOU, PHILIP MORRIS (NY, LA, SF): Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor star in one very odd looking flick.

RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE (limited): Santa is found and captured and ready to be sold, but this Santa is not to be messed with!

ALL GOOD THINGS (limited): Kristen Dunst, Ryan Gosling, and Frank Langella star in this 1970's NYC missing person's case inspired by a true story.

ON DVD THIS WEEK…

KNIGHT AND DAY: Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in a spy action comedy that looked OK at best. I don't mind Cruise so much as Diaz.

THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE: Nic Cage teaches Jay Baruchel magic in this Disney special effects bonanza.

WALT AND EL GRUPO: Speaking of Disney, this is a documentary about Walt and company going to South America at the behest of the US government as part of the Good Neighbor policy.

WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY: And yet another doc from Disney, this one explores what it was like as a Disney animator in the 1980's.

TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE: And finally, the Twilight saga continues for you fans out there.

FIENDISH RELEASES!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK...

BURLESQUE: Christina Aguilera and Cher star in this sexy musical. Looks like something to be thankful for indeed.

FASTER: The Rock is back, and without any more time to waste. He looked set to ruin his career with the kiddie movies, but Faster looks like a kick-ass movie. Hopefully it is.

TANGLED: Disney's update of the Rapunzel story in 3D could be fun, but generally isn't for me.

THE NUTCRACKER IN 3D (limited, wide: 12/3): Looks like an interesting take on the classic. Deck the halls, folks, the holiday are here!

LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS: Jake Gyllenahaal and Anne Hathaway have sex.

ON DVD THIS WEEK...
THE EXPENDABLES: I'm looking forward to checking out this testosterone fueled mega romp again. The first time I saw it was under less than desirable conditions. Check out my review here.

EAT PRAY LOVE: Julia Roberts stars in the best-selling book adaptation.

I'M STILL HERE: Casey Affleck's documentary about his pal Joaquin Phoenix's wacky transition from actor to rapper.

SEX AND THE CITY 2 (Netflix): You couldn't pay me enough money to see this. Actually, you probably could, who am I kidding?

Happy Viewing!

FIENDISH RELEASES!

In theaters this week:

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1: I'm not into HP, but I'm sure you are. So, you should probably get out to see this. What will you guys do when these are done?

THE NEXT THREE DAYS: Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, and Liam Neeson head Paul Haggis' latest movie about a man who devises a plan to break out his wrongly imprisoned wife from prison.

HEARTLESS: I posted a trailer to this one a week ago, and it looked fantastic. It's pretty much a modern day Faust retelling.

On DVD this week:

THE COMPLETE METROPOLIS: For the first time ever, the classic sci-fi film has been restored and is available to view. Looking forward to this!

THE LAST AIRBENDER: M. Night's latest, a fantasy movie based on a great cartoon, hits DVD. I want to see this one. I've dug his movies, even The Happening to a point.

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT: Annette Benning, Julianne Moore, and Mark Ruffalo star in this comedy about a modern day family.

LOTTERY TICKET: A teen and his grandma win the lottery, but now he has to make it through the Fourth of July weekend to be able to cash in! Looked kind of funny.

VENGEANCE: Johnny To, director of the great Exiled, brings us this film about a French Chef who goes to Hong Kong to exact vengeance for a tragic event.

PREDATORS (Netflix): The Robert Rodriguez produced, Nimrod Antal directed retake of the Predator franchise is out on Netflix. Here's the Fiend's take on the movie.

Happy viewing!

FIENDISH RELEASES!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK…

MORNING GLORY (11/10): Harrisord Ford and Rachael McAdams take the leads in an ensemble piece about a morning news show.

SKYLINE: This one seems to fall somewhere between Independence Day and District 9, and in terms of quality I'd say it'll be there as well. Looks like a good one to see on the big screen.

UNSTOPPABLE: A runaway train movie? Meh, been there, done that. A runaway train movie with Denzel and Captain Kirk directed by Ridley Scott?! Yeah, sign me up!

ON DVD THIS WEEK…

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD: Wow, this is out already on DVD? Sheesh, time flies! I owe the Fiend a review on that one. I think a double bill of that and The Legend of the Guardians will make for fun posting. Oh and RENT THIS MOVIE!

ANTICHRIST: Willem Dafoe in a scary Satanic movie. Really looked creepy.

GROWN-UPS: Sandler, Rock, Spade, and James go to camp. Eh, didn't look too funny to me, but by all means have at it..

LOVE RANCH: The story of the first legalized brothel in Nevada. It stars Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci and looked pretty good. Loved the poster for this one.

JONAH HEX (Netflix): um, I got nothing here.

LOST BOYS: THE THIRST (Netflix): Another direct-to-DVD with Corey Feldman. I don't think I'll ever get around to these movies despite loving the original.

KNUCKLEHEAD (Netflix): Lou just reviewed this one. WWE Films don't seem to have much of a shelf life.

FIENDISH RELEASES!

IN THEATERS THIS WEEK…

DUE DATE: Robert Downey Jr.? Zach Galifianakis? In a Todd Phillips comedy? Sign me up!

MEGAMIND: Another villain animated flick hits, this one with a mega cast featuring Wil Ferrel, Brad Pitt, and Tina Fey amongst others.

CLIENT 9: THE RISE AND FALL OF ELIOT SPITZER (limited): Y'know, I liked Eliot Spitzer alot, voted for him and everything. And, y'know, whatever he did, he did. I think he shouldn't have resigned and fought for his post. Needless to say, I'm curious to see this doc.

FAIR GAME (limited; expands 11/12): Sean Penn and Naomi Watts star in Doug Liman's latest.

FOR COLORED GIRLS: The prolific Tyler Perry strikes again!

ON DVD THIS WEEK…

CENTURION: Neil Marshall's Roman soldiers on the run flick is out on DVD, but will be available to view instantly in a month. I'm so anxious to see this, love Marshall, but I may wait it out.

TOY STORY 3: Pixar's a no brainer. I'll see anything they put out. Hopefully, they haven't gone to the well too much with TS.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (Netflix): The Nightmare remake is out on DVD. I haven't seen all of the Nightmares, though, so I don't consider myself a huge fan, but I may give this a watch. Curious to see Jackie Earl Haley's take on the character.

THE KARATE KID (Netflix): Another remake, but I like the approach taken here with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan in the lead roles.

SPLICE (Netflix): This creepy looking sci-fi thriller with Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley makes its NF debut. Looking forward to this one.
