THIS WEEK'S NETFLIX RELEASES

We're back for the second installment of the Fiend's look at the week in rentable DVDs. Not as huge a week this time in terms of quality, but some wacky titles to play around with. Let's start with the quality, though.

Judd Apatow's latest flick, Funny People, comes out this Tuesday, and while it's on my queue, I'm not in any rush to see it. Nothing about the trailers made me stop and go "wow, that looks great!" This is the third movie he's directed, but for some reason his first two (The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up) didn't hit all the right notes for me. They're fine movies, don't get me wrong, but I think the hype was more than the bite. So, we'll see. Needless to say, I won't be moving this up to #1 anytime soon.

The follow-up to The DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons, is another big one coming this week. I really dug the first film, and this one seems to have a similar flavor. Hanks usually does OK by me, and Ron Howard is a solid enough director.

The only other flick on my queue this week is Gommorah. This is an Italian movie about two teens' involvement with the Neapolitan mob. It's equal parts art and crime film, and has won a few awards around the world, so paint me interested.

That's it for me, but a couple of others to note include infamously bad director Uwe Boll's video game adaptation movie Far Cry. Yes, he's butchering another one. Also, horror movie with Ron Jeremy called Blood Moon Rising that almost sounds fantastic:

Adult-film legend Ron Jeremy headlines this horror flick about an army of evil beings who rise from hell at the behest of the devil's daughter, Lucy. Now, the fate of the world rests in the hands of Lucy's hippie great-great-granddaughter, Sadie. With comic-book geek Darrell (Neal Trout) by her side, Sadie battles zombies, vampires and other creepy creatures. Laurie Love does double duty playing Lucy and Sadie.

Lastly, National Lampoon's RoboDoc, more need not be said.
