Welcome back to your guide to this week's DVD rental releases. This should be a rather short list as there's not much of note, and not too many of any sort of interest. The biggest movie coming out iS the second installment of the Ben Stiller mini franchise, Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian. The first one held some amusement, but overall was OK at best. I have this in my queue, but have no plans to move it up, and pray it becomes available to Watch Instantly soon.
The only other movie in my queue prior to seeing the list, was the Michael Cera indie comedy, Paper Hearts. It's an interesting concept:
Eccentric performer and romantic skeptic Charlyne Yi embarks on a quest to learn the true nature of love -- and gathers some surprising findings when she begins a relationship with actor Michael Cera. Real-life sweethearts Yi and Cera star as themselves in this quirky hybrid of documentary and scripted comedy. The charming romance was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
Cera has been a breakout star since his turn in Juno, and I've followed his rise fairly well. His super slacker persona seems funny to me no matter what the situation, and this one seems like a perfect vehicle to show his real self, most likely one and the same.
A documentary I added as I read the list was Cartoonist: Jeff Smith. This is about the comic book series Bone's creator, the aforementioned Smith, and also tracks the changes in comics sice he began. Being in the business myself, and a huge fan of Smith's work, I am very interested in this one. I highly recommend Bone, a funny, cartoon-like, Lord of the Rings type of book that's destined to be an animated saga.
The only other movie of mild interest is a Brittany Murphy thriller called Deadline. The view the entire list click here.
