THIS WEEK'S NETFLIX RELEASES

With a short week in between holidays, it's usually a small week for DVD releases. This year's no different, so here's this week's rentables.

First off, we have one of the bigger surprise hits of the year, Paranormal Activity. Filmed in a low-budget documentary style that owes a lot to such films as the Blair Witch Project, this one kicked booty just a short while ago in the theaters, and has experienced a quick turnaround. It looked rather scary, and it's on my list to see.

Another horror movie that's coming out, but seemed to be a let-down at the box office is Jennifer's Body. Featuring a script from Juno's Diablo Cody and staring the mega-hot Megan Fox as a sexy demon, you would've expected a bigger buzz. I suspect it'll do better on DVD, though.

One movie I'm really looking forward to is the animated flick 9. This one is co-produced by Tim Burton and the dude that made the Russian Nightwatch films and Wanted. This movie bolsters some incredibly unique visuals, and on the whole is a rather interesting concept for an animated film: A postapocalyptic story about a group of small robots trying to survive. To me, that's super cool!

Lastly, we have David Twohy's A Perfect Getaway. Twohy's been an interesting director, having done the Riddick movies, The Arrival, and the critically acclaimed submarine flick Below. While this one sounds a bit generic as compared to his other flicks, I like the director's style, so I'll eventually give it a check.

There's also a Spaceballs animated special I'm curious about and the direct to DVD sequel of The Marine, but not much else of note. For the full list go here. Happy renting!
