THIS WEEK'S NETFLIX RELEASES

A pretty good week in DVD releases with some critically acclaimed and otherwise interesting sounding titles coming out. There's a three on here that I'm really interested in. Let's get to those, and then sum up the rest.

Let's start with some horror, OK? One of my favorite remakes of the past decade has been Rob Zombie's Halloween. The rocker/artist/writer/director didn't just make a cash grab, he went in and reinvigorated the franchise and added some real depth to the story. Zombie has made a good name for himself thus far, and his sequel to Halloween is high on my list of must-sees. Rent that bad boy here.

Sam Rockwell, one hell of a fantastic and under-appreciated actor, stars in the Sci-Fi psychological thriller Moon. Rockwell plays an astronaut who's been on the moon for three years, and is just about ready to head home, but things start to get weird. Sure, we've seen this plot before, but Rockwell makes it that much more exciting and fresh. Should be good.

Next, we have the critically acclaimed return of director Kathryn Bigelow, with The Hurt Locker. Bigelow has made some damn good movies in her career: Near Dark, Strange Days, Point Break! She's been on sabbatical, though, since '02's K19-The Widowmaker, and from the looks of it, it's great having her back. THL received plenty of praise, and the war movie centering around a bomb disposal unit looks like a dramatic adrenalin rush! Top of the queue it goes!

There's all kinds of other movies worth giving a shot to including the remake of Fame, the critically acclaimed Japanese film Departures, Patton Oswalt as a Giants fan in Big Fan, James Gandolfini is In the Loop, Spike Lee directing a movie version of a Broadway musical, Charlize Theron and Kim Bassinger together in The Burning Plain, a pretty interesting indie flick called Downloading Nancy, a Busta Rhymes movie, and a new Tyler Perry production.

Phew!

No giant blockbusters, but there's certainly plenty to choose from there. And there's more than even those. For the complete list click here. Happy renting!
