There's a few movies to talk about this week, but not as many possibilities as last week's batch. Some of these were in my queue already, and one I just added while skimming the list. Let's start there.
Apparently, Joel Schumaker made a horror movie last year called Blood Creek. After a little research, it seemed to come out in limited release somewhere in the US in September. With the horror at a fever pitch, and a director like Schumaker at the helm, I'm extremely surprised this one got little play, I had never even heard of it till last week, when I started seeing ads for it on various websites. The preview isn't bad, and the fan commentaries around the web appear decent. Maybe the Nazi involvement had something to do it with, maybe it is bad, who knows, but it's coming out on DVD this week, and my curiosity is piqued.
We also have the Gerald Butler sci-fi actioner Gamer. This looked decent, but I'm not expecting much. Set in the future, Butler stars as a soldier stuck battling for his life in a real-life video game. Concepts like this aren't new, but Butler is a good action lead, and I'd rather watch him in one of these than in a silly romantic comedy!
Next, is the sci-fi/horror movie Pandorum. This one reminds me of Event Horizon, and is yet another space movie where weird/bad stuff happens when the crew awakes from hyper-sleep. Dennis Quaid leads the cast. It's in my queue, but I'm in no rush on this one.
Hey, guess what? There's a Smokin' Aces direct-to-DVD sequel coming out! Yup, the Joe Carnahan flick gets a sequel with Tom Berenger, Ernie Hudson, and Vinnie Jones! Yikes! Well, as far as B-action movies go, I'm sure it'll be fine.
Last, but not least, Steven Soderbergh's Che comes out. If listing this crop of movies before Che says anything to you about my taste is movies, well, you'd be half-right. Anyways, this one has been available as a streamer for quite a bit, so I'm surprised the DVD took as long as it did to come out.
Not much else of note for me, but check out the entire list here. Happy renting!
