THIS WEEK'S NETFLIX RELEASES

Big director's week this week so let's get right into it.

The Box directed by Richard Kelly. After his break-out Donnie Darko, Kelly went on to film the much maligned Southland Tales. The Box is his third movie and looks to continue his brand of odd stories. Definitely a smaller feeling film than ST, maybe he was trying to go back to his Darko roots.

The Informant directed by Steven Soderbergh. I love when Soderbergh can go a bit lighter with his stories, as those always seem to grab me more. I know, maybe I'm nuts, but The Informant looks like a fun movie with Matt Damon shining in the lead role.

Red Cliff directed by John Woo. The Hong Kong director goes home to make a sprawling martial arts epic. His Hollywood movies were mostly misses, but his talent shines through even in those. His crime flicks before that were outstanding and this movie looks fantastic as well.

Brothers directed by Jim Sheridan. Sheridan has been nominated for multiple awards over the years, and his latest movie was nominated for two Golden Globes. The story of the relationship of two brothers, Tobey Macguire and Jake Gllyenhall, and the wife of one (Natlie Portman) is actually a remake of a Danish film. Seemed pretty intense from the previews.

Fantastic Mr. Fox directed by Wes Anderson. I loved this movie, a stop motion flick about a smart-alecky fox who's a great thief, but trying to be a good husband and dad as well. To me, Wes Anderson's best. Here's my review.

A couple of other movies worth mentioning not part of the director's bonanza are The Men who Stare at Goats with George Clooney and an amazing supporting cast, and the Stone Cold Steve Austin action flick Damage. The former looks hilarious, while the latter is good ol' meathead movie. Enjoy them both with popcorn with heaping portions of delicious American dairy farmer's butter. Yum!
