So I only got to see two films in this year's festival, but boy were they experiences! First off, I'd like to say that the folks that run this show do a superb job. This is my second year going and both times I've had great outings. They offer up some great contests and prizes and often bring in directors and actors and SFX folks. It's a very cool experience that I hope the Fiend can be more involved in in the future. Now let's get into the two films I did see.
First off, I saw Crazy Racer. This was a Guy Ritchie-esque type of crime film made in China. This was an absolute blast of a film from start to finish. The plot revolved around a bicyclist who is set-up to be disgraced and blackballed from his sport, and later gets mistakenly involved in a big drug scheme which inadvertently brings him back to together with the man who set him up! It's a pretty funny descent into madness, and one I'd suggest checking out if you have a chance.
The second movie I saw was of the more ridiculous variety. Death Kappa is an insane romp from Tokyo Shock. Part 50's sci-fi, part giant monster movie, all Japanese weirdness. Was it good? Well, that's all in the definition I guess. It was an expierence that's for sure. Can I recommend it? Well if you're a giant monster movie fan, sure, if you like what Tokyo Shock brings over here, definitely, otherwise you won't know what you're getting into!
